Biólogo, es profesor de la Escuela de Biología de la Universidad de Costa Rica desde el año 2014 e investigador del CIBET desde su creación en 2020. Posee una maestría en biología de la Universidad de Costa Rica y doctorado en ecología de la Universidad Estatal de Campinas (Unicamp), Brasil. Su especialidad es la ecología y taxonomía de abejas, árboles tropicales, y las interacciones planta-animal. Es curador de la Colección de Abejas del CIBET y Director de la Red de Áreas Protegidas de la UCR (www.rap.ucr.ac.cr). Participa en proyectos de investigación tanto en Costa Rica como en el extranjero en temáticas como polinización, fenología, ecología química, dispersión de semillas, diversidad, comportamiento, entre otras.
